A tough 2nd round of the Championship for the Roscommon Camogie team.

They were up against Laois again having lost to them in the League Final.

There was a very strong breeze in Woodmount and Laois had this advantage for the first half.

Laois opened the scoring with a point from play in the 1st minute of the game. Roscommon’s Tara Naughton converted her free to bring it level.

Another Laois point and another Roscommon free for Tara Naughton and the sides were all square again.

However – Laois found the back of the net in the 9th minute and began to pull away from Roscommon.

Ciara Kilcommons scored a lovely point from play after 22 mins or so but Laois were quick to respond and scored another 2:02 before Half Time.

Half time score 3-07 (16) to 0-04

In the 2nd half – Laois were quick of the mark and started very strong against the wind scoring 2:02 very quickly making it 4-09 to 0-04.

A big deficit for Roscommon to make up but they never gave up and began to chip away at the scoreline. Celine Gaquin scored 2 pts from play in quick succession and Tara Naughton converting her 45’s and frees with ease.

Sarah Dooley was marked tighly throughout the game but she got a lovely point from play towards the end of the 2nd half.

Some super defensive work too by Rachel Fitzmaurice and Erin McDermott while Sally Bolger and Lily Murray had a great game mid field.

After some fabulous and physical camogie Laois ran out winners on a scoreline of:

4-11 to 0-12

Scorers:

Tara Naughton 0-08

Celine Gaquin 0-02

Ciara Kilcommons 0-01

Sarah Dooley 0-01

A galant and feisty performance by the Roscommon Camógs – especially in the 2nd half.
